Woah.... tumblr hasn’t recommended my blog to new users since I woke up, I think. Damn... (was hoping more people would follow my twitch and stuff) now out of the 5k+ new people, I wonder how many are bots. Guess we’ll see as the follower numbers fluctuate.

I still wonder what qualifies a blog to be recommended in the onboarding process. Is it that I use the “art” tag a lot as one of my popular tags? Is it that I’ve been here since 2013? Is it a mix of both things? Maybe it’s like Pinterest where you follow or select a certain number of interests that correlate to blogs in this case? Is it also attributed to the fact that I’ve made so many posts (reblogs count towards total post count) from being active on here for so many years?

Keep in mind, I have no idea what the 2023 tumblr sign-up process is like. I’ve only heard that supposedly you have to follow a couple blogs before you can do stuff, whatever that means and encompasses is outside of my knowledge sphere.

But she has everything she needs. Hobbies, work and a family she loves dearly. She doesn’t need romance, adventure or shallow relationships. No matter how much her best friend pesters her about it.

Sakura Petal might be considered the opposite of her best friend. She’s outgoing, adventurous and spreads happiness wherever she goes. She has everything.

Unless you ask her. Then she’s the reason her best friend is alone and she’s a horrible mother.

When Sakura's son disappears, the girls must not only venture into the cave system to find him. They also have to face their own insecurities and past mistakes.

Is it just me, or is Tumblr Desktop having issues with the log in button? I wouldn't be using it out of protest for the new UI, but I needed to trigger a log in email to test Thunderbird, and when I tried logging in, BOTH the Log In and Sign Up buttons on the main homepage of Tumblr did not work. I clicked and clicked and they did nothing. The login button even changed the URL, but manually highlighting it and hitting enter did nothing. The only way I was able to login was by going directly to my blog and using that little "Login" or "Sign Up" footer that appears. So much for "attracting new users" to the platform, I guess.

after spending an inordinate amount of time troubleshooting and reading through countless reddit threads and pushing the goodwill of various support agents, i have managed to restore my ability to download torrents again without resorting to installing the dreaded os update. turns out the solution was embarrassingly simple and i wasted way too much time and energy trying to find a complex answer to what was actually a minor problem (the first thing i *thought* i checked, but which evidently i didn't check well enough).

anyway, tumblr still has functionality issues for me that may/may not be related to the old tumblr dashboard userstyle extension i'm using (and refuse to turn off bc the alternative is unthinkable). notably some likes/reblogs don't appear in my activity feed, and when people message me through dm's i don't always get a notification (and when i do, there's no way of knowing *who* messaged me unless i click on all the old messages at the top of the list until i find something i haven't seen before, which makes it very easy to miss it when more than one person messages me in any given period). this could be a problem moving forward with MTH 2024, but i'll try to make sure i don't miss anything!

I suppose the thing I just posted about is less noticeable/less of a problem on most windows laptops, which have relatively weak, power-sipping integrated graphics and separate power-hungry discrete GPUs that are only enabled during 3d rendering workloads. the apple silicon "I only have one graphics processor and it's huge" setup ensures class-leading 2d ui rendering performance at all times... and also means a runaway overly-expensive 2d ui animation is free to use the entire power budget of the system, an amount you would normally only encounter in a gaming/compute setting where the user would reasonably expect the battery drain and heat output associated with those tasks.
